Glumm & Co
The living room in afternoon light — a curved bouclé sofa, dusty blue chairs, and a floor of layered pattern

A Glumm Home — Aventura

The rooms finally sound like them.

A private residence in Aventura.

A home should sound like the people who live in it. Somewhere along the way, this one had stopped.

New floors, first — the same warm oak, room to room, so nothing feels like a hand-off.

The kitchen stopped hiding behind its cabinets and started doing the talking.

Blush meets dusty blue meets black, and somehow nothing argues.

Eight chairs around the table, and someone is always pulling up a ninth.

Four bedrooms upstairs. Down here is where the house actually lives.

The kitchen island — book-matched marble counter and hood, fluted plaster base, oak cabinetry

Morning

Marble, floor to hood, one thought

The same slab runs up the wall behind the range and across the island — one continuous vein instead of three separate decisions. Warm oak cabinetry either side keeps it from turning cold, and the fluted plaster skirting the island softens a room that could have read as all hard surface.

The kitchen opens straight onto the dining table, one uninterrupted line

Counter to table, in one line — nothing to walk around

The dining room — an oval marble table, ring-backed chairs, a brass disc sculpture, open shelving

Gathering

The table everyone finds their way to

Eight ring-backed chairs around an oval marble top on a fluted oak base — enough for the whole family, plenty for the friends who show up anyway. A brass disc catches the late light on one wall; on the other, open shelves hold the objects that actually get used, not just displayed.

Luxury was never the price of the things. It was the thought behind them.

What this project taught us

  1. 01One floor, run through every room, gives even old walls a fresh start.
  2. 02A palette can be playful and still be considered.
  3. 03The room people actually gather in deserves the most thought, not the least.
